As summer and outdoor activities approach, barbecues are popular and fun events to celebrat events such as
the 4th of July, birthday parties, receptions, and going away parties. No matter why you have decided to plan a barbeque party, the memories that will come from it are sure to stick with your guests for many years to come, provided that you plan ahead. Planning the perfect BBQ party is not difficult, as long as you follow a few simple steps.

1) First, no barbeque would be complete without guests. Plan ahead of time, checking with your potential guest for scheduling conflicts and issues. Finding a date and time that is suitable for everyone should not be to far as long as you everyone enough advanced notice. Remember that not everyone will be able to come, no matter how much notice you give them, so do not get discouraged if you do not get as many RSVPs as your originally hoped for.

2) Be sure to check the weather for that type of year. If you live in a climate that cannot be predicted, then you may want to have a backup plan just incase unusual weather comes. You cannot predict things like rain and thunderstorms ahead of time, but you can make sure that you hold you barbeque during the time of year that will be pleasant to your guests. A barbeque in cold weather may hold more negative memories of trying to keep warm rather then good memories of family and friends.

3) Purchase the type of meat that you will be serving at your party. You will want to have a least a couple of different kinds of meats, as everyone attending may not like a certain kind. It is usually safe to go with pork, sausage, hamburgers, and chicken. If smaller children are going to be in attendance, you should consider child friendly foods such as smaller hamburgers and hot dogs.

4) Once you have the meat purchased, you will then want to consider what type of sides dished you will serve. If you want a completely tradition barbeque, you may want to stick with traditions sides. Traditional barbeque sides include potatoes, potato salad, baked beans, and coleslaw. Your traditional condiment bar should include pickles, relish, and onions. These foods are typically severed at barbeques because they are easy to prepare and store until the event happens. You may want to cook other items, but any barbeque is complete with just the items listed above. Once again, if children will be present, you may want to consider sides for them as well.

The simplest approach to side dishes is chips and dip. Chips and dip do not require any cooking on your part, and will still be loved by the majority of your guests.

5) Depending on the theme of your party, you may or may not want to purchase decorations. Festive decorations can be found at any local party or general store. You may also consider purchasing decorations that can be stored and reused at a different time, such as reusable tablecloths and Tiki torches.

6) The day before you party, you will want to make sure to thaw, prepare, and marinate the meat you will be cooking. Store the meat stored away, soaking up the marinate until it is time for it to go on the grill. Prepare any side dishes that you can ahead of time.

7) The day of the party, get up early and start preparing for it. You do not want your guest arriving while you are still cooking or hanging decorations. It should only take you a few hours at most to prepare the area in which you will be having the party, but the reactions from your guest will probably seem as if you have been planning this for weeks. Try to have the grill already going by time the guests get there as well, because the smell coming from the grill is sure to get everyone in the mood.

When was the last time you had a good barbecue? Here are some things to remember to help you come up with the perfect barbecue.

The choice of wood that you use can have some bearing on how your barbecue comes out as these impart different flavours to the meat. (Yes, unfortunately, your neighbors’ complaint that their food has a taste of wood in it actually does have some basis.) In addition, some types of wood burn faster than others. Many suggest that the best way to barbecue is to use a combination of wood and charcoal to optimize smoke flavour and consistent burning. (Let’s see what your neighbors can say about that one.)

As far as charcoal is concerned, buying a commercial bag of processed charcoal briquettes is fine, although lump charcoal may be better. The main difference between lump charcoal and brisquette charcoal is that the first has not been ground and shaped. Lump charcoal is considered a purer form of charcoal and is obviously preferred by purists over processed charcoal.

Ideally, you should use a chimney starter because this ensures a consistent heat level for the coal. Or, you could also use an electric iron to heat the coals. Others simply soak the charcoal in lighter fluid and light them, a technique which is quick and easy, although this can impart unnatural chemical flavours to the meat. Better to use denatured alcohol to avoid the aftertaste problem.

After 15-25 minutes, the coals are covered in ash. For indirect cooking, spread the coals around the grill’s perimeter and place the meat in the grill’s center. For direct cooking, pile the coals together in the center right underneath the meat.

Gas grills are ideal because they are easy to light and the heat they generate is easy to control, using those gas valves on the burners (the one with the knobs). However, purists still prefer cooking with charcoal because they claim gas grills lack the flavour that comes from cooking with wood and charcoal. Gas grills are also more expensive, but they are also cleaner since they do not produce ashes or air pollution.

Mexican Grilled Chicken With Tomato Avocado Salsa

Almost everyone loves Mexican food regardless of where they are from. Here is a Mexican recipe for grilled chicken that you can create in your own kitchen. This recipe is very easy to make and you can be sure that your friends and family will enjoy it.

Mexican Grilled Chicken with Tomato Avocado Salsa

Ingredients to serve 4 people:

4 boneless chicken breasts (leave the skin on)

2 large tomatoes

1 small red onion

1 peeled avocado

2 jalapeno peppers or 3 to 6 fresh serrano chili peppers (the more the spicier; start with 3)

3 cloves garlic, unpeeled

2 tbsp orange juice

1 tbsp lemon juice

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tbsp chopped cilantro

Olive oil for basting the chicken breasts

Cut the tomatoes and red onion into thick slices.

Cut the peppers in half and discard the seeds.

Put the garlic cloves and the tomato, onion, and pepper slices on the grill. Let these grill with the lid closed until the vegetables and peppers are charred and garlic skin comes off (about two minutes on each side).

Remove the vegetable, pepper and garlic from the grill and chop them up and mix well. Stir in the lemon and orange juice and season with salt and/or pepper (to desired taste).

Using half of this mixture spread it over the chicken breasts (be sure to rub it under the loose skin) and let it marinate for 1 hour at room temperature or up to four days refrigerated.

When you are ready to grill the chicken baste it with the olive oil and place it on a grill that has been preheated on high. Cook the chicken breasts until the juices are clear - about five minutes on each side.

While the chicken is grilling chop up the avocado and stir it into the remaining half of the vegetable, pepper and garlic mixture. Add the cilantro and stir everything well.

When your grilled chicken is cooked to your satisfaction remove it from the grill and cut it into one-half inch slices. Now serve it to your friends or family with the grilled tomato avocado salsa.

Remember that food safety is very important. You want your barbecue to be both fun and safe for everyone. Always be sure that you cook meat completely. Cut into the chicken breast at its thickest part, when they are completely cooked the juices will be clear and the meat will be white. Keep all utensils you use to handle the raw chicken separate from the ones you use to handle the cooked meat. Be sure to wash your hands after handling the raw chicken. Cross contamination of bacteria can be as risky to your health as eating raw meat.

Flat Pack Furniture: Why are the assembly instructions so vague and the diamgrams so poor?

No wonder Homer had such a hard time with building his barbecue!
typo: diagrams not diamgrams

you forgot to mention that there is always a screw or dowel missing!them in the instruction design centre must have a right laugh when they send them out!

Am I right to be skeptical about BBQ grills that are painted?

I picked up a little cute BBQ grill from Freecycle one day and we have used it a few times, but now I noticed that the paint is starting to peel on the inside of the lid. This BBQ is cute 'cause it looks like the Weber Jr. which I plan to buy for a replacement. I still feel uncomfortable about giving it away to anyone. I know the hardware stores sell spray to re-do your Q, but that doesn't prove it's a save thing. What is your opinion?

I would NOT use a grill that has peeling paint… I bet it was made in china… Either sand blast it off or throw it away or take it back… I actually bought a cheap hibachi at the supermarket and when I opened the box the actual grill part had peeling silver paint!!! yup, made in china… GROSS and probably NOT healthy… I showed it to customer service… they ended up pulling them ALL off the shelves…
